Beta 250RX Two-Stroke MX Bike: First Impressions

Beta has unveiled its new 250RX two-stroke motocross bike, a significant addition to the shrinking but passionate two-stroke market. This model effectively replaces the 300RX, designed to better fit racing classes and offer a more competitive powerband. Priced at $9690, the 250RX aims to reignite interest in the 250cc two-stroke category alongside established models.
For many motorcycle enthusiasts, the sound and feel of a two-stroke engine hold a special place. While these bikes represent a smaller segment of today's motocross market, companies like Beta are dedicated to keeping the two-stroke flame alive. Their latest offering, the 250RX, marks a significant entry into the 250cc two-stroke motocross class.
This new 250RX isn't entirely a blank-sheet design, but it's a crucial evolution. It effectively steps in for the previous 300RX model, which, despite being a capable machine, faced challenges in fitting specific racing categories, particularly the 250 class often seen in Europe. Additionally, the 300RX struggled to match the raw horsepower of other modified bikes in Open Pro two-stroke championships.
To address these issues, Beta has introduced two new bikes: a 350RX and the featured 250RX. The 250RX is engineered to be more competitive within its intended class, aiming to provide a powerful and agile option for riders. With a price tag of $9690, it joins a select group of 250cc two-stroke motocross bikes, including the Yamaha YZ250 and offerings from Austrian manufacturers. This release is a welcome development for riders who appreciate the unique characteristics and maintenance simplicity of two-stroke machines, potentially revitalizing interest in this classic segment of off-road riding.
